The application should be accompanied by all the relevant supporting documents, including justification that the organisation fulfils the eligibility criteria set out in the Rules of Procedure. Organisations interested in joining the Strategic Co-ordination Group, or any of the CIS Working Groups, should send their application to the following email address: ENV-WATER ec europa eu (ENV-WATEReceuropaeu). Within this framework, several technical Working Groups operate, for example by producing Guidance documents on technical aspects, key events and additional thematic documents. The CIS aims to ensure the coherent and harmonious implementation of the WFD and its daughter directives. In order to address the challenges in a co-operative and coordinated way, the Member States, Norway and the Commission agreed on a Common Implementation Strategy (CIS) for the Water Framework Directive only five months after the entry into force of the Directive. The implementation of the WFD raises a number of shared technical challenges for the Member States, the Commission, the Candidate and EEA Countries as well as stakeholders and NGOs. Rhine, Scheldt / l'Escaut, Sava Commission (ISRBC) Common Implementation Strategy (CIS) Several International River Basin Districts have also published River Basin Management Plans: Danube, Elbe, Ems, Finnish-Norwegian International River Basin District, Other key documents and links to the reported River basin management plans - along with other important information from the process of implementing the Water Framework Directive are available here. They are drawn up after extensive public consultation and are valid for a six-year period. These are the key tools for implementing the WFD. Therefore a common understanding and approach is crucial to the successful and effective implementation of the Directive. Many European river basins are international, crossing administrative and territorial borders. If the proposal is agreed by the Council and the European Parliament, Member States will be required to take measures to meet the quality standards for the additional pollutants, and to make their monitoring data available on a more frequent basis. In October 2022, the Commission adopted a proposal to revise the lists of pollutants in surface water and groundwater. They contribute to achieving a range of sustainable development goals. The objectives of the directives are as relevant now as they were at the time of the adoption, if not more. The key findings show that the directives have led to a higher level of protection for water bodies and flood risk management than could have been expected without them. In December 2019, a Fitness Check concluded that the water legislation is broadly fit for purpose, with room for improvement related to investments, implementation, integrating water into other policies, chemical pollution, administrative simplification and digitalisation. That Directive also complements the WFD by including requirements as regards pollutant trends and quantitative status. Similarly, the list of pollutants and standards of EU-wide concern in Annex I to the Groundwater Directive (GWD) must also be reviewed every 6 years these contribute to the assessment of chemical status in groundwater. This list of priority substances needs to be reviewed, and updated if necessary, every 6 years. river basin specific pollutants the monitoring of which currently contributes to the assessment of ecological status. The WFD also requires Member States to set and meet Environmental Quality Standards (EQS) for substances of national concern, i.e. The annexes to the WFD specify details as regards, for example, monitoring requirements, the criteria for assessing water body status, and the contents of the RBMPs.Īt present, the WFD includes in its Annex X the list of priority substances that Member States must monitor in surface waters, but the standards for them are set in the Environmental Quality Standards Directive (EQSD) and must be met to achieve good surface water chemical status in accordance with WFD Article 4 and Annex V point 1.4.3. The WFD contains provisions regarding the deadlines for meeting the objectives of the Directive, as well as provisions on exemptions. It is supported by two so-called daughter directives on the quality and quantity of groundwater and on the quality of surface water. The Water Framework Directive (WFD) is the primary legislation. I’ll add in an after shot soon, but for now, here’s our current exterior before the black windows are added. ![]() Since our windows were in dire need of being replaced anyway, we’re now in the process of replacing all of our windows for ones with black trim. We noticed this immediately when we painted our home white before we had replaced our windows.Įven though we had a wooden door and wooden porch posts, our white home was definitely missing something. But now, with the farmhouse trend in full force, white exteriors are being made even more beautiful with black trim.Įven with adding touches of natural wood elements to a white home, sometimes without a contrasting trim color, white can be a little bit boring. Long before the modern farmhouse trend emerged, white was the most popular color for a home’s exterior. You can also get black aluminum clad windows, too. On May 19, 2009, a federal grand jury in New York returned a ten-count indictment against Muse. The charge of piracy has a mandatory life sentence (), and there is no parole in U.S. Muse was then brought to New York to face trial on charges including piracy under the law of nations, conspiracy to seize a ship by force, conspiracy to commit hostage-taking, and firearms related charges, carrying a potential of up to four life sentences. Peck decided Muse was not under 18 and that he could be tried as an adult. In a court ruling on April 21, 2009, U.S. government and president to free her son, asserting that Muse had been lured into pirate activity by wealthy unnamed criminals. In an interview with the BBC Somali service, Muse's mother also appealed to the U.S. She indicated he was only 16 years old, and that his name was Abdi Wali Abdulqadir Muse. In a telephone interview with the Associated Press, she stated that the authorities had both his name and age wrong. ![]() Muse's mother, Adar Abdurahman Hassan, tells a different story. officials indicated that investigators had confirmed Muse was over 18, which precluded additional legal steps to prosecute him. On April 20, 2009, CBC News reported that U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates also asserted that the three dead pirate suspects, who remain partially unidentified, and Muse were all between the ages of 17 and 19. officials reported Muse as being 16 to 20 years old, and that his name was Abduhl Wali-i-Musi. authorities had considered transferring him to authorities in Kenya per international agreement to prosecute pirate suspects. Muse was charged, and was to stand trial in New York because of the local FBI office's expertise in handling cases where major crimes were perpetrated against Americans in Africa, such as the 1998 U.S. According to the New York Daily News, he was at the time 17 to 19 years old. Mentioned before, there was confusion about his age. Muse was tried in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York in New York City. The indictment does not name the two vessels involved, hijacked in March and April 2009. In 2010, Muse was charged in connection with two additional attacks on international shipping. Shi, which was quoted in his indictment, involves murder and a crew member taking over a ship and holding a hostage. A more recent case, 2008's United States v. Muse was then charged and taken into American custody, and was thought to be the first person to be charged with piracy in an American court in more than 100 years, when courts ruled in 1885 that the Ambrose Light was not a pirate vessel. ![]() Not long after Muse was taken on board the Bainbridge, the three remaining pirates were shot and killed by Navy SEAL Team Six. Without the Khat, the other pirates were getting sea sick. He had told the navy officers that they were running out of Khat, a native plant found in the Somali region used to combat sea sickness and that the lifeboat had ran out of gas. On the Bainbridge, Muse was given first aid for his hand injury he had received five days earlier on the Alabama and water. All four pirates escaped with Phillips held hostage inside the lifeboat.Ī day later, the USS Bainbridge intercepted the lifeboat and navy officers negotiated with the armed pirates for hours and initially agreed to take Muse on board the Bainbridge to "meet" with elders from his clan to negotiate the release of Phillips. Attempting to exchange Phillips for Muse however goes sour, and the pirates forced Phillips into the lifeboat. Phillips offers Muse and his men money and to leave the Alabama safely on the lifeboat. The remaining crew took Muse captive and gave him first aid. ![]() Perry brought Muse to a secure room in the bowels of the ship where 14 other crew members were hiding. Muse ran away and was caught by Chief Engineer Mike Perry. Reza surprised Muse, stabbing him in his left hand with a knife. Muse and Reza left the three pirates behind with Phillips and the crew on the bridge and began searching the container ship's engine room. At some point, crew member ATM Reza convinced Muse to leave his firearm behind while searching the ship. After all four pirates were aboard, the men began interrogating Richard Phillips, the ship's captain, and at least two other crew members on the bridge. Muse is short in stature - Colleen Long and Larry Neumeister, writing for the Associated Press, reported that Muse was, "only five foot two inches (157 cm) tall."Ībduwali Muse tied up by the crew of the Alabama in a secure room at the bottom of the ship, near the engine room.Īccording to his indictment, Muse was the first of the four men to board the Maersk Alabama. ![]() Authorities state he was born in 1990, while his mother claims he was born in 1992, and his father states he was born in 1993. The table of known attributes below lists attributes that Houdini can automatically cast. Houdini knows to cast some commonly used attributes using the appropriate VEX datatype. For example, in the Volume Wrangle node, you can use to get the center of the volume. Some nodes may provide additional attribute-like variables you can read to get computed information about the geometry. contains the total number of elements in the geometry/list. contains the number of the current element being processed. ![]() Houdini provides some attribute-like variables you can use in the snippet. (The Volume Wrangle node will not create new volumes this way.) If you write to a in the VEX code and the attribute does not exist, Houdini will create it. In the Volume Wrangle node, you can use volume_name to read or write to a volume. Instead they affect the particles by varying the parameter values per-particle. Particle DOPs can access particle attributes but can’t modify them. In the snippet, you can read/write the value of an attribute using attribute_name.įor example, to read or write to the P (position) attribute, use in the VEX code. For geometry manipulation, however, wrangling and VEX/VOPs is the way forward, and it’s worthwhile to learn the new workflow. HScript will probably always be available for certain jobs where it’s handier than VEX. This simple fact is the reason why VEX will only become more widely used to replace HScript expressions for ad-hoc geometry manipulation. VEX has gained equivalents of most HScript expression functions, and is easier to use for things like array and string processing, with conveniences such as Python-like array/string slicing and Python like dictionaries.Īs users work on ever-larger and more complex geometry, threading and parallel processing become more and more important to get acceptable performance. ![]() Passing information down the network on attributes is inherently friendlier to parallel processing than using external references on later nodes to data on earlier nodes.Ĭurrently, VEX operations are supported inside compiled SOP blocks, but HScript expressions using local variables cannot be compiled. In VEX this is much easier: Since technical work in Houdini often revolves around attributes, this can actually make VEX expressions a lot simpler than the equivalent HScript expressions. In HScript expressions, getting the value of an attribute that didn’t already have a local variable mapping set up in the node was a chore (for example, point(opinputpath(".",0), $PT, "my_var", 0)). Working directly on attributes instead of local variables actually has some ease-of-use advantages, since the naming of local variables could be inconsistent with the underlying attribute’s name, and inconsistent from node to node. It runs faster and automatically supports threading and parallel computation. Using VEX and attributes has major performance benefits over HScript expressions and local variables. For performance reasons, Houdini is moving toward doing ad-hoc geometry modifications with VEX operating on attributes, rather than HScript expressions operating on local variables and external channel references. ![]() Just remember to take your time and be gentle with the clutch, stick shift, and gas pedal. That’s it! You now know the basics of stick shift. Both types of transmissions are safe to use, as long as you’re familiar with the basics of how they work. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference. Others find automatic transmission to be simpler and more convenient. Some people prefer stick shift because it gives them more control over the car. There are pros and cons to both automatic and manual transmissions. Is Manual Transmission Better Than Automatic? A mechanic will be able to determine if your stick shift needs more fluid during a routine checkup. You shouldn’t check it yourself, as it requires special tools. It’s here to cool and lubricate the moving parts inside your stick shift, so it’s important to keep it at the correct level. Yes, stick shifts have transmission fluid! It’s important to check the fluid level regularly and top it off if necessary. The car will stall if you release the clutch too fast. If you start rolling backwards, depress the foot brake and pull the handbrake, then try again. When you’re ready to start moving, pull the handbrake down and release the clutch slowly while shifting your right foot to the accelerator. After you have finished using your brush swirl in water and clean under the tap gently with soap before rinsing and allowing to dry. It is just as important to clean your brush at intervals by swirling in water and even more important to blot before dipping into the ink again to prevent diluting the ink, especially if using a large brush. Dipping your brush into water before just blotting on some paper towel before dipping in the ink will help to prevent staining and build up of ink. The wood will swell and the pen will crack and be useless. When using a bamboo or other reed pen NEVER leave the pen in water other than dipping in to clean it, as described above. When you have finished using the pen wash well with water and wipe carefully both outside and inside the nib and clean again till no ink colours the paper towel when it is wiped. This keeps the nib clean and prevents dilution of the ink. Every few strokes clean your nib by swirling in water and wiping again with a paper towel.
